February 2012

The Gift of Love
In I Corinthians, Chapter 13, “love” is described as being patient and kind. It’s not boastful, envious or rude, and not easily provoked to anger. Love doesn’t keep a list of wrongs. It protects, trusts, hopes and perseveres. Best of all, it never fails.
Many of us throw the word "love” around like confetti, but do we really mean what we say? If our spouse makes a bad decision do we ridicule them, pulling their mistakes out like ammunition when disagreements arise? If our kids’ school grades aren’t up to our standards, do we shout at them or patiently offer help? If our brother or sister in Christ is caught in a negative situation, do we spread the gossip or pray for them
I Corinthians13:1-3 makes it very plain: we can prophesy, speak in tongues, give to the poor and have all the faith in the world, but without love, real love, we are nothing.
This Valentine’s Day, try giving a true gift of LOVE. Invite someone to dinner. Spend quality time with your children or with someone else's child. When you pray, take time to pray for others. Call your Pastor and offer a love gift, like cleaning his or her car, handling a church project, or by sowing a financial seed to support the ministry. Forgive someone who hurt you in the past. Let go of grudges and give others the clean slate we all trust God to give us.
Valentine's Day and every day, show your love. “These three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”
(I Corinthians 13:13)
God Bless you!
